Meet the Maker: Layers of Earth

“I learned about the sacred art of self decoration with the monarch butterflies perched atop my head, lightning bugs as my night jewelry, and emerald-green frogs as bracelets.” ― Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype
Established in 2011 in Crofton, Maryland, Layers of Earth elevates plant-based jewelry with hand cut brass, botanically dyed fibers and strong bohemian ethos. Understanding skin care and jewelry as part of a collective wellness approach, maker Joanna Otten explains, “When we take time to adorn ourselves with things that make us feel beautiful, pieces that share a visual representation of our lifestyle and beliefs, we can shift our mood and radiate a happiness that is contagious to everyone we come in contact with.”
